It was inevitable, I was stung in the no-no square. Yep, that's exactly what I said, the no-no square. I learned that bees can and are not afraid to sting through denim. It was an invaluable lesson that I will soon not forget.
I was "helping" my mentor do a quick inspection on some hives to determine if they were ready to be placed on a strawberry field. It was a little cool, and the girls were a bit feisty. Bees, being mostly women, do not like to be pestered when it's cool, overcast, misty, hot, or on most days that end in Y. We would inspect two hives at a time, because pestering twice as many bees at once is twice the fun. That's when it happened, right in the old no-no square. All you can do is brush off the bee and walk it off. Luckily, I am not allergic to honey bee stings. Can you picture the ER visit if i were allergic? I am sure there would have been questions, laughter, pointing, and probably pictures.
Bee stings aside, it was an invaluable lesson that i will not soon forget. It's not like I don't own a complete bee suit and from now on I shall wear my bee suit with pride.
